HOUSTON (AP) — Carlos Correa’s path to a second season with the Minnesota Twins was a circuitous one that included him almost signing with both the Giants and the Mets.As the star shortstop prepared to lead the Twins in the AL Division Series against his former team the Houston Astros this weekend, he reflected on his crazy offseason.“It worked out the way it was supposed to for sure,” Correa told The Associated Press on Friday. Correa agreed to mega deals first with San Francisco and then the Mets before problems with his physical derailed both. It was then that he re-signed with the Twins for a second season after first joining them following his departure from the Astros after the 2021 season.“I always stayed in touch with them and deep in my heart I wanted to go back,” Correa said. He thought it was important to test the market and talk to teams that were willing to give him “the value you think you deserve.” But when the deals with those two teams fell through, the choice to re...

NFL notes: The Patriots have failed Mac Jones, but need him to save them anyway

Published Mon, 24 Feb 2025 16:14:17 GMT

The worst loss of the Bill Belichick era fell squarely on Mac Jones. Two of his turnovers led directly to 15 Cowboys points last weekend. The Pats scored three. That was it.Here’s what’s happened since.Jones’ performance eroded the faith certain members of the organization had in their quarterback, according to Boston Sports Journal. In a mid-week interview, Julian Edelman blasted Jones and claimed he’s not developing fast enough for the Patriots’ liking. Michael Lombardi, a former Patriots executive and longtime Bill Belichick confidant, ripped Jones for having a sweet tooth for turnovers and lacking any ability to lead his team to a comeback win.Bottom line: it was a bad week to be Mac Jones. On Wednesday, Jones admitted he tried to play outside the structure of Bill O’Brien’s system against the Cowboys. Translation: he forced the issue. Why would Jones force the issue? Well, he has to.Jones’ failures are not mutually exclusive from O&#...

Mexico denies producing fentanyl; Texas Republicans baffled

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – It was a summit meant to show solidarity in finding multinational solutions to the migrant crisis at the U.S. border and the fentanyl epidemic spreading through North America. But between talking points about agreements and praises for the partners, an apparent contradiction emerged after Thursday’s meeting of Biden administration cabinet members and Mexican officials in Mexico City.“We are going to advance prevention on drug trafficking, especially fentanyl, with action and awareness campaigns. And we will also address the causes of violence through universal programs so the population, especially the youth, will have growth opportunities,” Mexican Public Safety Secretary Rosa Icela Rodriguez Velazquez said at the post-summit press conference.“So we can also come to the deepest causes of economic growth and the trafficking of chemical precursors. Remember that Mexico is not a producer of fentanyl. Mexico is a country of transit. In Mexico, we have n...

Next year’s Medicare Part B premiums are expected to be announced soon and there is speculation that coverage of another pricey new Alzheimer’s medication could cause monthly costs to go up, echoing what occurred in 2022.Leqembi received full approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July, becoming the second drug of its kind to hit the market after Aduhelm. The drug comes with an annual cost of $26,500.While only approved for patients with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia who are also confirmed to have a brain plaque called amyloid, the pharmaceutical industry expects Leqembi to be popular. While the medication is not a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, Leqembi is the first drug to demonstrate clinical benefits to patients by slowing down the progression of the disease. This is accomplished by targeting and reducing amyloid plaque in the brain, the buildup of which is linked to cognitive decline.Leqembi’s manufacturer Eisai estimates about 100,000 people will be ...
