At Saticoy Elementary School in North Hollywood, days of controversy over a Pride month event came to a head Friday morning, though it remains to be seen if this will be the end of the debate over teaching LGBTQ topics at schools. For Pride month, teachers will read students Mary Hoffman’s book “The Great Big Book of Families,” which Goodreads called “a celebration of the diverse fabric of kith and kin the world over.”The Los Angeles Unified School District agreed, telling KTLA last month that the event is intended to highlight diversity. Some parents, however, claim the discussion of same-sex relationships and other topics during the Gay Pride and Rainbow Day assembly is not appropriate for children and should be taught at home by parents, not at school by teachers. They're at the school Friday morning to protest the assembly. Homes now rising from a dusty subdivision in Desert Hot Springs may be at the forefront of future homebuilding.Unlike the dozens of houses surrounding this 20-home development on the east side of town, these houses aren’t made from wood and stucco. They’re “3D-printed” at a Mexican factory, using a huge robotic arm to layer recycled glass into sturdy wall panels that are assembled like Lego blocks at the home site.Proponents say 3D printing can produce homes faster and potentially cheaper than traditional construction. Since they can use recycled materials, they’re more eco-friendly and generate less waste. The process, 3D developers say, could be one solution to the housing crisis.“There is no way in 10 years we’ll be able to be building like we are today,” Chris Murphy, chief strategy officer for Oakland-based Mighty Buildings, which produces the houses for the Desert Hot Springs developer, Palari Group of Beverly Hills.“Even if we didn’t have a massive shortage on the supply side, ...Everything Apple Plans to Show at WWDC: XR Headset, iOS 17 and More

By Nathaniel Meyersohn | CNNNew York — If you follow right-wing media or Twitter, you may have seen a lot of coverage recently about Target’s stock price falling. But the explanation for why it’s happening is dead wrong.Right-wing outlets and personalities have repeatedly claimed that Target’s decline — the company snapped a nine-day losing streak Thursday, during which shares dropped to around a three-year low — was due to backlash over its Pride Month clothing.“Target shares hit three-year low as Pride backlash hits bottom line,” a Fox News headline said Friday. In a legal filing with the United States District Court Northern District of California, the child's parents named the school district, Ulloa Elementary School, principal Carol Fong and several school administrators as defendants.According to the filing, the student, named as "Minor A.P." or "Student A," was physically spanked, hit, and called derogatory names and racial slurs that included "the N-word, fat, ugly, naked prune and stupid." (KRON) -- Normally, the Truckee River Rafting Company starts welcoming visitors on Memorial Day, but not this year. River rafting on a section of the river might be shut down for the entire summer season.Despite a historic wet winter, the 5-mile stretch of weaving water from Tahoe City to River Ranch Road is currently at low levels. "It is a complicated system. Because of the snowpack, the water master can't release water from Tahoe because it can lead to flooding downstream,” said Sydney Courcier, Truckee River Rafting Company manager. She said the rafting season should be in full swing by now, operating about 100 to 200 rafts a day. “We are really sad about it all, but we are happy about the amount of water, and it is good for everything,” said Courcier. 3 dead, 2 injured after crime spree in San Jose, Milpitas; suspect arrested She said they typically hire 70 workers for the season that runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. NYON, Switzerland (AP) — José Mourinho was charged by UEFA on Friday after being filmed aggressively cursing at the English match referee in a stadium garage after the Europa League final.UEFA said the Roma coach is charged for “insulting / abusive language against a match official” after Sevilla’s victory in Budapest this week.It was one of a slew of disciplinary charges UEFA opened into incidents at a testy, bad-tempered game that lasted more than three hours on Wednesday.Footage circulated Thursday of Mourinho approaching referee Anthony Taylor in the garage and calling him a “disgrace” with an expletive.Later Thursday, Taylor and his family were harassed and verbally abused by Roma fans at the airport in Budapest. The potential link between the two films likely means Mourinho will get a more severe sanction than the minimum two-game touchline ban demanded by UEFA disciplinary rules for “insulting or directing abusive language at a match official.”Roma lost to Sevilla in a penalty...Latest news
