CU Buffs have high expectations for re-stocked receiver room: “Multiple of us can go for 1,000 yards.”

BOULDER — It’s been a few years since the Buffs aired it out, but according to the CU wideouts, that’s all about to change this fall.Last year, the Buffs ranked 118th in the nation at 172.9 passing yards per game. The year before that, they were 126th (131.3). Now with nearly all-new personnel, the Buffs pass-catchers believe quarterback Shedeur Sanders is ready to rack up yardage in his first year in offensive coordinator Sean Lewis’ up-tempo system.“We’re trying to be one of the best (passing games) in the country,” receiver Xavier Weaver said. “(Shedeur) can do a whole lot with the receivers he’s got. Multiple of us can go for 1,000 yards. That’s how big the expectation is this year.”If Weaver’s bold prediction comes true, it would mark just the second time in program history CU had more than one 1,000-yard receiver, with the first instance coming in 1992. That year, Charles E. Johnson (1,149) and Michael Wes...Denver homebuyers see some relief as closed price-to-list price ratio drops

With a near-record low number of homes available in the Denver metro in July, it’s still officially a seller’s market. Still, some buyers are seeing a little relief as the closed price-to-list price ratio dropped slightly below 100%.“Anecdotally, listing agents aren’t seeing the bidding wars from 2021 and early 2022 or the strong offers with no contingencies,” says Colleen Covell, a member of the Denver Metro Association of Realtors market trends committee and realtor at Mile Hi Modern.“Burdened with high-interest rate loans, buyers feel entitled to take their time, wait for the best home to suit their needs, and then negotiate for all necessary repairs and seller concessions.”According to the monthly report from the Denver Metro Association of Realtors, July’s housing market continued to be sluggish, with only 6,299 active listings at month’s end, a 4% increase over June’s 6,071. Historically, the average number of active ...Possible stolen van driver in custody after leading CHP officers on slow-speed chase in South Bay

Owners of some older iPhone models are expected to receive about $65 each after a judge cleared the way for payments in a class-action lawsuit accusing Apple of secretly throttling phone performance. The Cupertino cell phone giant agreed in 2020 to pay up to $500 million to resolve a lawsuit alleging it had perpetrated “one of the largest consumer frauds in history” by surreptitiously slowing the performance of certain iPhone models to address problems with batteries and processors. This week, two iPhone owners who objected to the settlement lost their appeal in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals over its terms, removing the final obstacle to the deal.Under the agreement, Apple was to provide the claims administrator with names and contact information for everyone owning or leasing an eligible iPhone. By Trisha Ahmed | Associated Press/Report for AmericaMINNEAPOLIS — A formerly well-connected GOP donor convicted of giving teenage girls gifts, alcohol and money in exchange for sex was sentenced Wednesday to 21 years in prison on sex trafficking charges.Anton “Tony” Lazzaro was found guilty in March by a federal jury of seven counts involving “commercial sex acts” with five girls ages 15 and 16 in 2020, when Lazzaro was 30. The charges carried mandatory minimum sentences of 10 years with a maximum of life in prison.Prosecutors had requested a 30-year sentence for Lazzaro. They likened Lazzaro to financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was arrested in 2019 on federal charges accusing him of paying underage girls for massages and then abusing them at his homes in Florida and New York. The defense asked for no more than 10 years.“He’s a sex trafficker,” prosecutor Laura Provinzino said. “One who has shown absolutely no remorse. Gov. Gavin Newsom poured water Friday on suggestions that U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s slip and fall earlier this week is yet another sign the ailing 90-year-old lawmaker should resign and let him appoint a replacement.Several liberal Democrats urged Feinstein’s ouster this spring as her months-long absence from the Senate Judiciary Committee due to shingles complications held up some Democratic judicial appointments. But Newsom noted Senate Republian Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has said he wouldn’t seat a Democratic replacement for Feinstein.“I have to remind my friends that if she does resign and the governor — me — appoints someone, we may not get another federal judge out of the judiciary,” Newsom told reporters Friday at a briefing in the Capitol. “You think Mitch McConnell is going to allow that? You think for a second Mitch McConnell will allow another Democrat?”McConnell in April said in response to suggestions for...Latest news
