In body camera footage that was later released — after police said none would be — one officer said that the cop had been shot by his fellow police. (Authorities dismissed the footage as speculation and said evidence did not support the remarks.) A previous, independent autopsy ordered by Tortuguita’s family found that the activist’s hands were raised when they were shot. Then, on Wednesday night, DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office released its official autopsy ...Tesla’s price cuts drag share prices sharply lower

DETROIT (AP) — Tesla shares fell sharply Thursday as the company felt the sting of numerous price cuts it made across its model lineup this year in hopes of energizing sales.Tesla is shaving thousands of dollars off the price of its cars as American consumers pull back spending on big ticket items, anxious over elevated inflation and a pair of U.S. banks that collapsed during Tesla’s first quarter.Tesla’s sales did climb during the quarter, but the amount of money generated per sale fell on price cuts, and first-quarter profit slumped 24%, the company said late Wednesday.Shares of Tesla Inc. tumbled more than 10% after dropping 2% on Wednesday. Shares were trading at $162.18, the lowest point since late January. Shares have rallied all year after a significant sell-off in 2022. TDCowen analyst Jeffrey Osborne said he’s “concerned” about Tesla’s strategy of selling as many vehicles as possible at lower profit margins and counting on revenue generated later from “Full Self...Canada’s BMO Financial appoints Darrel Hackett as new US CEO

NEW YORK (AP) — Canadian and U.S. banking giant BMO Financial said Thursday it has named Darrell Hackett as its U.S. CEO, promoting an insider and elevating a person of color to a role where there are few at that level in the financial industry. Hackett, who has been with BMO since 2004, will replace Dave Casper, who is planning on retiring this summer. Before this promotion, Hackett was head of BMO’s U.S. Wealth Management division. Hackett also ran the bank’s U.S. business banking division. There are only a handful of Black and Latino senior financial executives in the U.S. The only Black CEO of a major U.S. bank is M&T Bank’s Rene Jones, who took over that role in 2017. In a statement, BMO Financial Group CEO Darryl White said Hackett’s promotion is part of the company’s work “for the elimination of barriers to inclusion.”“Darrel is a purpose-driven, high-performing and client-focused leader and I am excited to work with him in this new rol...Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks trying to get under LeBron’s skin

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Calling the NBA’s all-time leading scorer — regular season and playoffs — old and just another player might not seem very smart to most folks. For Dillon Brooks, that’s just the Grizzlies’ defender trying to get under LeBron James’ skin. Brooks is one of the NBA’s best defenders. He started off the mind games before their first-round Western Conference series was locked in, saying he wanted to face James and the Lakers. And Brooks didn’t hold back after his Grizzlies tied this series at 1-1 without Ja Morant. Brooks called James a legend yes, but “old” at 38. He added James isn’t the player who won titles in Miami and Cleveland. Brooks, 27, is in the final year of his contract. “I’m creating a name for myself,” Brooks said Wednesday night after a 103-93 win over the Lakers. This is nothing new for Brooks, often called Dillon the Villain in Memphis. He embraces the heel role in a town where wrestling and trash talk is a w...Titans, new GM need O-linemen, pass catchers in NFL draft

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Everyone trying to figure out what the Tennessee Titans will do with the 11th overall pick in the draft points to one position: quarterback.Ryan Tannehill turns 35 in July after ending last season on injured reserve with an ankle problem that cost him five games, including the last three, while the Titans endured a brutal close to the season and fell short of a third straight AFC South title. He also is in the final year of a contract that’s set to pay him $27 million and cost $36.6 million against the salary cap. New general manager Ran Carthon was hired in January after Jon Robinson was fired with the Titans leading the NFL in consecutive seasons using the most players because of injuries. Carthon and the Titans have looked at all the top quarterbacks available in the draft starting April 27. Carthon insists it’s due diligence.“You guys just have to accept the fact that Ryan is under contract for us, and right now he’s a Titan and he...ISPS HANDA – Championship Scores

BOSTON (AP) — Minnesota Twins right-hander Kenta Maeda was hit by a 111 mph line drive in the left ankle and came out of Thursday’s game against Boston after two innings.Maeda stayed on his feet long enough to field the ball and throw Jarren Duran out at first for the third out of the inning. The pitcher then crumpled to the grass, and the Twins training staff rushed out to help him. After a few minutes, Maeda walked off to the dugout. The team announced that he had a left ankle bruise and was getting X-Rays.Emilio Pagan came in to start the third. The Red Sox led 1-0 when Maeda came out thanks to Alex Verdugo’s solo homer in the first — the only hit Maeda allowed.___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb and https://twitter.com/AP_SportsSourceTrade-ups for quarterbacks becoming more common in NFL

Tired of spending years in the quarterback wilderness, shuffling in a string of mostly ineffective veterans at the game’s most important position, the Carolina Panthers made a bold move that has been all too common in recent years. The Panthers packaged two first-round picks, two second-round picks and star receiver D.J. Moore to move up from No. 9 in the draft to the top overall selection to give Carolina the pick of the lot at quarterback in next week’s draft.“You go get the guy that you want,” Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer said before making the move. “If you have a conviction on a guy, you go get him.”Whether that guy is betting favorite from FanDuel Sportsbook Bryce Young, or one of the three other QBs projected to go in the first round — C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson or Will Levis — won’t be known for certain until next Thursday night. This marks the first time since 2016 that a team traded the top pick, with the Rams trading up to take Jared Goff t...A look at some of best and worst draft trade-up for QBs

Trading up to draft a quarterback in the first round has become commonplace in recent years with it happening 17 times in the past 12 drafts.Carolina is expected to be the 18th team to do it since 2011 after trading up from No. 9 to No. 1 where the Panthers will have their choice of Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson or Will Levis. The history of these moves has been mixed with several success stories such as Kansas City getting Patrick Mahomes and Buffalo moving up for Josh Allen, as well as failures such as Chicago moving up for Mitch Trubisky. Here’s a look at some of the best and worst recent moves to trade up to draft a quarterback:HITSChiefs trading up for Mahomes in 2017. No draft-day trade had a bigger impact on the game today than the one Kansas City made in 2017. Fresh off back-to-back playoff berths with Alex Smith at quarterback, Kansas City wanted an upgrade and dealt the 27th overall pick, along with a third-rounder and a 2018 first-rounder to Buffalo to ...Latest news
